fiddling around with what an adult insect/dragon hybrid stealth monster would look like. Nixed his wings, they made his design too clunky. Inspired by chameleons and chubby insect grubs. As a hybrid, Smokescreen is a little uneven-looking and unsettling to ponies. He can't breathe fire, but he can spit gobs of acid, as well as breathe out clouds of toxic smoke. Despite his bulk, he can walk up walls and ceilings like an oversized gecko, sneak about without making a sound, shapeshift (though he remains mute in any form he takes), and he possesses a unique camouflaging magic within his scales, allowing him to blend into backgrounds and become virtually invisible, if he so wishes. It's great for spywork, but also fantastic for one of his favorite games, sneaking up on his Auntie Pandora and scaring her half out her goddamn skin (think terrified fluffed-up noodle cat screeching). Curiously, he can never seem to sneak up successfully on Princess Iridescence, who claims she always senses him coming.

Smoky can't talk, but he's very expressive and good at making his thoughts known, often without even using his standard sign language or creepy mandible clicking. Like his father Spike he has a prominent sense of humor, even if it can slip into dark and unpleasant territory, and he makes an eerie hiss-clicking sound that his family knows is his way of laughing. Unlike his dear Aunt Pandora, Smokescreen is quite confident and enjoys life as a "monster", and loves messing with ponies. As an adult he is a smart, smooth, ruthless handsome international spy for Equestria. He’s paid to do undercover work, to observe and sneak and steal, to not be seen...If you are seeing him, it’s probably because he’s currently pulling out your teeth. But to be fair, you should have forked over the information he wanted when he first asked (signed) politely.

Spike and Thorax have no idea what their son does for a living, just that he works in “national security”, gets paid well, and seems pretty well-adjusted and polite. Smoke is fiercely loyal to his friends and family, especially Princess Iridescence, the half-changeling princess. He likes comic books and horror novels, and his favorite foods are love letters and wedding rings.
