Description

"Yo, Midnight. Mind telling me why you're not out there with the rest of the band? We're setting up soon."

"Several reasons." Midnight fixed Chakra Blossom with her trademark withering glare. "The first and foremost being that I don't feel like interacting with those....vagabonds you call musicians. I've resurrected corpses that smelled better than your lot."

Chakra shrugged. "It isn't easy finding ponies who'll work for peanuts. We need to take whoever we can get. I dunno if you noticed, but the band ain't exactly rolling in cash these days."

"Of course I noticed. But money isn't the reason I've stuck around this long."

"Oh yeah?" Chakra smirked. "You've been doin' this out of the goodness of your heart all along? Aw, Glory, I'm touched." He pinched her cheek fondly, and she slapped his hand away.

"I've told you time and time again not to call me that, fool. My name is Midnight Abyss. Remember it. Morning Glory was the cutesy silly-filly name my parents gave me."

"Aww, but Morning Glory fits so much better. Perfect name for my perfect, sweet lil' ball of sunbeams and smiles." He teased, and dared to tickle under her chin. Briefly, Midnight considered casting a curse on his first born child.

"Chakra, I am not sticking around out of the goodness of my heart." Again, she smacked his hand away. "I'm here for the music. I've always been here for the music."

"....I know. You and me both." Chakra grew serious, a rarity. "The others are just here for the paycheck, even if its tiny. But you're different, Midnight. You get it. I can feel it when you sing. You're a real musician...like me."

Midnight scowled. "If that's the case, why won't you let me sing one of my songs? I've written book loads of songs, you've seen them. We need a new sound-and frankly, I'm tired of singing your songs."

"God, not this again." Chakra snorted. "Look, kid, I like your songs, I do. They're uh....unique, I guess. But the last time we performed one of your songs, you ended up resurrecting a horde of dead squirrels that made the crowd run away screaming, and I'm not sure I buy that you did it by accident."

"Connecting to the dead is my talent, Chakra. I like to make contact with the dear departed through music. That crowd should have been thankful-necromancy is a long lost art. You're always going on about how we need to spice up our shows....I merely upgraded our dull music concert into live, magical performance art."

"With corpses." Chakra growled. "This band is a sinking ship, kid. We won't make it easier on ourselves if I let you get up there and do your whole Queen of the Damned thing-how can we make any money if you depress the crowd with your borderline funeral dirges, then sic an army of the undead on them? I don't want to shut down your vision, but we have to, if we want to survive."

Midnight frowned. "....So that's it. We'll never perform any of my songs, then. We'll only play yours....your awful crooning about pretentious, flowery romance and....genitalia."

"Hey, sex sells." Chakra sighed. "What do you want from me, Glory?"

"I want you to help me play a song I wrote." Midnight folded her arms and stood up straight. ".....Or I quit."

"Oh, come on. You'll kill the band!" Chakra snapped. Volume had seeped into his voice, but Midnight wasn't cowed.

"Maybe....or perhaps my music will resurrect us instead. That is my talent, after all."

"There won't be anything to resurrect after we get booed into the next dimension." Chakra clenched his hands in his mane of dreads in frustration, before he opted to clasp his partner's hand instead. "We're a hoof in the grave already. I care about this band-I know you do too! We can't afford to gamble like this. C'mon." He squeezed tighter, and tried for a disarming smile. "Please. C'mon. Nighty, baby, don't do this to me."

Midnight frowned at the nickname. "We've got nothing to lose. We play my song, or I quit."

"But-!"

"Chakra." Midnight pulled her hand out of his grip, and let it rest on his shoulder. "When we started singing together, we promised we'd always put the music first. Not money, not fame, not even success. Don't you remember? We started this because we were voiceless then, and music gave us the means to speak. Right now, you're stifling my voice."

"Midnight-"

"Don't you trust me?" Midnight looked to him, and for a moment they held each other's gaze.

"Urgh....." Chakra let out a defeated sigh. "Fine. Alright. Go ahead. We're already on a sinking ship-might as well fire a torpedo at it. But when everything goes to hell, I'll have a never ending string of I-told-you-so's at the ready."

"What a positive attitude." The corners of Midnight's mouth twitched.  "And you say I'm the cynical one."

"You still are, but maybe it's a little refreshing sometimes." Chakra shrugged. ".....I guess not every song can be about genitalia." He snickered a bit, remembering her griping. "Or pretentious romance."

"No worries." The ghost of something almost, almost like a smile crossed her face. "The song I wrote is still one about love."

"Oh, yeah?" Chakra brightened.

"Yeah." Midnight patted his cheek, mostly out of condescension, but there was a sliver of affection there.

"....But mostly, it's about homicide."

even mooore anthro stuff
looking back, i remembered how i came up with midnight abyss and chakra blossom at the same time: Trash Babies by Lopoddity, so i started thinking about the possibilities of what their relationship to each other could be. I decided that they used to be friends? Kinda. They met in music class as little kiddos and decided to form a band together in their teens. Midnight's gloomy goth music was constantly at war with Chakra's new age hippie sound. Their band was kinda crummy, but Chakra and Midnight were both talented singers and musicians and stuck around mostly because they enjoyed each other's company, not that they'd ever admit that

Homicide? Shouldn't it be equicide?
