Personality/Background:
   Princess Skyla is the stressed and neurotic perfectly well-adjusted heir to the Crystal Empire. Born a pegasus to a family of alicorns and unicorns, Skyla spent a lot of time growing up lamenting her lack of magical ability. Although as a tiny foal she adored her elder sister Flurry Heart, over time Skyla grew bitterly jealous over the fact that Flurry was not only a naturally born alicorn, but also beautiful, warm, and beloved by the Empire. Skyla poured herself into training to be the best princess the Empire had ever seen-even better than Flurry-so that she too might someday ascend to alicornship and be given the ponies' love and respect, and even possibly their friendship. She is an obsessive perfectionist workaholic and often studies, trains, and exercises to the point of collapse.

    Despite her obsessive tendencies, Skyla is utterly dedicated to the crystal ponies and has a very strong sense of justice. However, she lacks the friendly warmth a princess should have (in fact she's quite socially awkward), and often finds herself barking orders to fix problems instead of gently attending to her subjects. This hasn't earned her any friends, but she's trying her best. Skyla would tell you that the thing she desires most in the world is to be an alicorn, but really, she longs for companionship.
   
Relationships:
   
    Skyla has a tense relationship with her parents, especially when they try to encourage her to relax. She sees spa days and family outings as a waste of time, especially since there's always work to be done for a princess. Still, she does bond sometimes with her father over self defense training and fencing.

    Skyla has a poor relationship with her elder sister Flurry Heart. Flurry was groomed since birth to be the heir to the Crystal Empire, and when the alicorn eventually broke under the pressure and fled the Empire, Skyla felt lost, betrayed, and angry. Flurry was gifted everything at birth-alicorn wings, endless love, immense magic- and she chose to give it up? Skyla was reluctantly crowned the new heir of the Empire, and even though she relishes the title, she finds herself thinking often about her big sister, torn between anger over the sudden abandonment, and never-ending worry for Flurry's well-being. Flurry also worries for her sister and hopes to reconnect someday.

    Skyla generally views her cousin Pandora with disdain. Skyla adored her baby cousin growing up, and when Pan expressed interest in becoming a princess, Skyla stepped up to help train her. But Pandora too, cracks under the pressure and abandons her crown, and Skyla is angry that yet another relative so selfishly abandoned their duties. Mostly though, Skyla is jealous of Pandora's freedom, and of all the true friends she has. Pan thinks Skyla is a butt.

    Skyla has a bit of a rivalry with Celestia's daughter, Princess Iridescence. Irie is a lazy, hedonistic princess, yet is still very adored by her subjects and friends, to Skyla's huffy annoyance. Irie also enjoys teasing Skyla, leaving her molted carapaces in Skyla's bed, and encouraging the younger princess to "pull that branch outta her ass already."

Skyla respects the leading princesses of Equestria, but really wishes Celestia would make her a dang alicorn already. She is pen pals with Artemis, heir to Luna.

Special:

-Skyla is quite a graceful flier and excellent at ballet and dance, but she finds little time for these hobbies nowadays. Her father trained her in battle and self-defense maneuvers, and she is quite a formidable fighter.

-Skyla has a secret crush on one of Pan's friends, and Pandora knows about it and teases her endlessly for it.

-She keeps harlequin romance novels stashed under her bed.

-Skyla exercises when super stressed. She has a big punching dummy that she can tape a picture of whomever she's feeling angry at to. She also keeps a brown paper bag on standby for whenever she starts hyperventilating.

-Ponies everywhere kind of assumed that when they were of age, Skyla and Artemis (the most sane of Equestria's new royals) would fall in love and wed. Skyla knew about these expectations and did try to force feelings for Artemis (even deluding herself), and the pressure she put on Artemis to reciprocate this "love" sort of broke their friendship for a while. They've since made up, but things are still a bit tense between them.

-Flurry Heart writes letters to Skyla often, and although Skyla doesn't write back, she stores every letter safely in a locked box.
